Celebrate World Down Syndrome Day 3/21 ROCK YOUR SOCKS

Celebrate with us !!!! Across the entire globe— on March 21st, friends, families, communities, teachers, doctors, students, etc. will be one voice for those we love with Down syndrome. 3/21 was selected to signify the uniqueness of the triplication (trisomy) of the 21st chromosome which creates Down syndrome.

Why is March 21st World Down Syndrome Day?

The date, 3-21 represents Trisomy 21, the medical term for Down syndrome, which is the third replication of the 21st chromosome. -newsok.com

Why should you rock your most colorful, crazy printed, maybe even mismatched socks today?

The point of wearing the socks is to remind people that “things that are different are still beautiful and wonderful,” says Jenny Andersson of Miller Place, who works for the Down Syndrome Advocacy Foundation in Hauppauge and has a 15-year-old daughter, Sarah, with Down syndrome.

The silly socks create conversation starters, Andersson says. People will ask “Why are you wearing those socks?” and she will explain that they’re symbolic. She says she’ll explain that people with Down syndrome also may not be “typical,” but they’re still awesome. “It brings awareness and acceptance,” she says. -newsday.com
